Technicals – Problem Caused in Boiler

Problem : Scaling, Pitting, Corrosion, Carryover, Foaming, High blow down

1. TDS = Scaling, Fouling, Carryover & foaming in boiler

a) Hardness = Scaling (CaCo3) : Temporary (Ca, Mg, Mn), : Permanent (Na, K)
b) Chloride = Corrosion
c) Alkalinity = Scaling, Total/ Methyl Orange(4.3 pH), Phenolphthalein (8.3 pH), Caustic/OH (9.5 pH)
d) Sulphate = Scaling (Specially in cement industries) & Corrosion.

2. Dissolve Gases = Corrosion, Pitting

3. pH Value = A change of 1 pH is 10 times more acidic/alkaline

a) High pH cause = scaling,
b) Low pH cause = Corrosion.
